March is Community Association Awareness Month, and we’re excited to kick off a month focused on what your community association does and how you can be part of it.
This month, we’re introducing a new way for you to stay connected and continue contributing to Braeside's future!
The Braeside Barometer
We want to hear from you! As much as possible. That’s why we’ve started the Braeside Barometer, a quick monthly poll where you can share your thoughts on the community. It will help us keep a pulse on the community and keep us engaged with what's most important to you.
Last month’s Barometer received 71 responses. From those, a small group has been invited to help lay the foundation for stronger community cohesion and safety. If you were one of the 13 people who said you’d like to get involved, you should have an email from us by now. Haven’t seen anything yet? Let us know! For the rest of you, stay tuned for a community wide session in the coming months.
We recognize that Braeside is a community of diverse neighbours — homeowners, those who rent, seniors, students, first-time buyers, single parents, and families of all shapes and sizes. Each of you brings something special to our community and we want to know what would make life better for you in Braeside. We want your ideas to help us create programs and services that reflect the needs of our whole community.

Braeside's Monthly Pop-up Café
We are launching a monthly Community-tea & Coffee café at the BCA, and the first one is just around the corner! Each month we will feature and support local businesses and provide a warm & connective place to spend a Saturday morning. We also anticipate having special guests and always engaging conversation.
Our first one is on March 8th! From 8:30am to 10:30am we’ll be welcoming neighbours with a scrumptious offering of local coffee & pastries from a local baker (for a very affordable price!). This month, we’re diving into our growing website with our web specialist Heather! We’d love to hear what you think and what else you’d like to see. Some of our board members will also be stopping by for some good dialogue and conversation. Join us!
Thank You to Our Rink Crew

As the ice turns to slush, we want to take a moment to thank Doug and the entire rink crew for their long, cold hours keeping Braeside skating all winter long. From early morning floods to late-night cleanups in freezing temperatures, this crew made sure we had a place to skate, play hockey, and enjoy the ice while it lasted.

Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to speed up the thaw, BIG gave us nearly 90 days of winter fun. Special thanks to the 24/25 crew: Bill C., Kevin M., Luke M., Chris M., Luke B., Travis F., & Doug G.
Want to join the team next year? Email Doug at rink@braesideyyc.ca
You’ll find official rink updates and seasonal news on our Facebook page, so make sure you’re following us: Braeside Community Association
Community Safety – Practical Steps & Real Action
We’ve heard your concerns about safety in Braeside. Through ongoing community engagement, we’re gathering data to better understand what’s happening and what’s needed to keep Braeside safe.
Here’s what you can do now:
See something suspicious? Report it to Calgary Police at 403-266-1234 or call 911 in an emergency.
Be part of the solution. Get to know your neighbours and keep an eye on each other’s homes.
Check out safety resources on our website: Living Locally | Braeside Community
We’ll keep working with the City to address speeding, visibility and pedestrian safety but your feedback@braesideyyc.ca will help us prioritize the areas that need attention most.
Get Out, Get Active, and Grow with Braeside!
Food prices are climbing and we’re stepping up to help. This year, we’re lowering the cost of our community garden boxes, making it easier for more families to grow their own fresh produce.
Gardening isn’t just a great way to save money, it’s also about building food security right here in Braeside. You'll find support, seeds, and community in our garden program. May 31 is the first BCA Garden Gathering of 2025.
Brackenridge & Bradbury Parks are being reimagined for more community connection.
The Urban Ecosystem Project is adding garden boxes, big flower beds and cozy gathering spots to relax and unwind.
Fun activities ahead: Free libraries, birdhouse building, treasure hunts, clean-ups, and more!

We’re painting the Braeside childcare area on March 22 & 23 and we’d love a hand. Drop in anytime between 9 am and 4 pm — stay for an hour or the whole day! Lunch and snacks provided to keep our crew going strong.
We’re also on the hunt for supplies, if you have extra:
Paint brushes & rollers
Paint trays
Poly (to protect our brand new floors)
Painter’s tape, rags, gloves, or TSP cleaner
To volunteer or donate supplies, call (403) 253-4232 or email operations@braesideyyc.ca
Share Your Story – Braeside Social History Project
We’re building a living history of Braeside, told by the people who know it best — you!
Know someone with great stories to share? Encourage them to take part: braesidebeacon@braesideyyc.ca or fill out our simple questions here!
Got plans? You do now! Take a peek at what’s coming up in Braeside — we’d love to see you there.

Your Community. Your Voice. Your Future.
Everything we do starts with you. Whether you’re growing veggies, lacing up skates, sharing memories, or voting in the Braeside Barometer, you’re part of making Braeside a better place to live for everyone. Thank you!
With Love, Your BCA Board
